Share Some Sugar is an online service that finds someone in your neighborhood or group of friends who is willing to lend or rent you something that you need. Think of all of those times that you bought something that ended up sitting in your closet collecting dust after you used it just once. Now you can borrow or rent an item from a neighbor instead of buying it.
It's a learning phase for us to test out the website with our members. We would love for you to share your comments, ideas, concerns and questions with us. This feedback will enable us to refine our service to ensure that we are providing you with a delightful experience.
We have integrated Facebook into our site to make it easier for you to borrow, share and find what you need within your group of friends and people that you already know. For example if you are a Facebook Connect member and you add an item to your wishlist, it will automatically be posted to your wall to notify your friends that you are looking for this item. This makes the chances of finding what you need a lot higher!
You can post almost anything...everything from a video game to an extra folding table to that espresso machine that you thought you would get more use out of. Take a look at the Prohibited Item list to see what you cannot post.
First off, we encourage you take advantage of our security deposit feature and assign a deposit amount to each item that you post. A security deposit acts as financial insurance, protecting your item incase it is damaged upon return. We recommend that the security deposit equal the estimated present value of the item. Second, both parties should inspect the item prior to handing the item over to the borrower. You can take before photos of the item if you’d like. We encourage both parties to review and sign the Sharing Agreement, which you will be sent to you prior to the transaction.
When you meet your neighbor to lend them your item, don’t forget to ask for the security deposit (only if you have indicated on SSS that there is a security deposit). We recommend that the deposit come in the form of a check. Once the item is returned to you, give the security deposit back to the borrower.
It is the responsibility of the owner and the borrower to negotiate the damages and come to an agreement on what percentage of the deposit should cover the damages.
You can reject a request at any time. You can also check the neighbors sharing feedback, similar to ebay, which allows you to read feedback that other neighbors have left for each other after their transactions are completed.
You make money every time you rent an item. It is up to you to determine how much you would like to charge to rent each item. We will recommend an amount for each item based on our pricing analysis of several rental services.

Sure! When you request an item, just navigate on the 'to' and 'from' dates on the calendar to the dates that you'd like the borrow the item for. As long as the owner agrees to this request, you are good to go. BTW, way to be a planner!
You can choose to only borrow items from people that you already know ;your friends and groups. You can coordinate the logistics of the transaction with your neighbor via 'my messages'. We recommend that you meet in a public, highly trafficked location; a local coffee shop or parking lot.
We recommend that you use the security deposit feature to protect both parties in the event of an item returned damaged. Owners are expected to provide an accurate item description. If you are not satisfied with the item, you can refuse the item upon meeting the owner and contact us directly.
By taking the possession of the item you agree to abide by the rental agreement that the owner provided. Hence you are responsible for the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. Be absolutely sure to review the condition of the item and read through the rental agreement before you receive the item.
Yes, you may click "cancel" next to the item that you wish to cancel. There is no penalty for a cancelation. We understand things come up that change your plans.
It's a group of people that all know each other in one way or another Or if they don't know each other well, they know people in common- other group members. For example if you create a group called 'My Building', you can invite anyone in your apartment building to your group to share.
Once you are logged in, click on My Groups and follow the prompts. You can invite your friends directly from Facebook or enter their email address. An invitation will be sent to each friend to invite them to join your sharing group.
The group moderator/ or neighbor who created the group can invite new member. If you would like to invite friends to a group that you are in but did not create, just send a note to the moderator asking to invite the new neighbors.
All new members automatically have a My Friends group created for them. This is where you can invite all of your friends. Any additional group that you create would be an interest group, i.e, New York Running Club, Hyde Park Moms, Main Street Neighbors (really anything!).
